Lam Research India

Time:
6.30 PM to 8.00 PM

Venue:
Royal Orchid Central Hotel,
47/1, Manipal Center,
Dickenson Road, Bangalore

Profile of Speaker(s):

I am a Computer Science graduate from REC (NIT) Calicut, did my PG in Software Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, and did MBA from IIM Bangalore. I got PMP certified in 2013.

I started my career with Siemens in software development, and then moved on to serve Novellus, a semiconductor equipment company, which is now Lam Research.

Lam supplies semiconductor manufacturing i.e., wafer processing and fabrication equipment to IC makers like Intel, Samsung, and foundry companies like TSMC, etc. While at Lam, I have been responsible for various departments including software development, quality and technical support functions, working closely with end customers.

At Lam I have used FMEA methodology extensively to evaluate new software project designs and their impact to the existing product functionality, and evolved the process to its current flavours.
I would like to share my experiences with FMEA in the PMI Footprints session.

Topic Description:

FMEA or Failure Modes Effects Analysis is a systematic and proactive methodology to help identify what can go wrong with a product or process. It helps assess how a system might fail, evaluate the probability and impact, and further identify possible mitigation actions to handle the failures.

In project management parlance, FMEA can be viewed as a risk management tool. In this session, we will see how FMEA fits in the project management framework as a risk management discipline. We will delve deeper to understand what the methodology prescribes in its standard form. The presentation will also examine how to use FMEA and benefit from hindsight, and look at a few examples.

Expected Take-away:

The audience will get an overview of what FMEA is and will be able to appreciate the value of this methodology. They will learn how to go about conducting FMEA analysis in product development, and understand some nuances and challenges in making FMEA effective..
