Topic: Stake holder analysis – using Salience model
by Mr. M.S.HIREMATH | Project management consultant | Independent consultant.

Synopsis :

Project managers not only need to complete the project objective stated in terms of scope/ quality , time and cost   but also meet the fourth objective i.e   Key - stake holder satisfaction.

However well we might have planned the project, but the key  project stake holders are not aligned to the project, the project will be derailed.

After the first process , developing project charter  in the initiation process group , PMI recommends  “ To identify the project stake holders” as the second process.

The salience model helps to identify the key stake holders i.e plug pullers of the project.

Topic: Project Management Challenges in Big Data Analytics
by Dr.Asoke Talukder | Chief Science Officer | Vibrant Health Limited.

Synopsis :

Big-data in business applications was defined through 3Vs, viz, volume, velocity, and variety. 3V definition of big-data in business applications fits well with many systems like banking, telecommunications etc. However, when big-data is combined with analytics, the level of complexity changes – it can no longer be defined using 3V.

Analytics involves analysis of data from various sources to discover new knowledge that was not known earlier. This new knowledge must be actionable or lead to actionable insights.

You need 7Vs to manage the challenges involved with big-data analytics (BDA) – they are volume, velocity, variety, veracity, vexing, variability, and value. The challenges in project management in BDA are multifold. This talk will discuss these challenges and help the audience to be familiar with this disruptive technology.

Industry and Academia; why collaboration?

Synopsis

India has been proud producer of significantly well performing Human Resource in the service sector. However, Industrial sector continuously face challenges in procurement of adequately skilled Human Resource. Students across the disciplines earn their degrees after years of hardworking yet remain jobless due to lack of Employability. Industry and Academia primarily share Consumer Producer relationship where the supply doesn’t meet basic demand standards. Academia and industry need to recognize each other’s strengths and strive towards greater trust and communication. It’s high time for this relationship to transform into a marriage like bonding and commitment.

Such commitments and bonding can’t sustain unless both sectors compliment and strengthen each other. While industries can strengthen institutional mechanisms with skill building and employability, Academic institutions can also support and strengthen industries with crucial areas related to research, innovation, and entrepreneurship as well There are weak linkages between the research and development taking place in academic laboratories and the various manufacturing companies that could use that research to improvise and evolve as per need of the hour.

Advanced requirement practices for Agile & Traditional projects

Synopsis

Requirement changes beyond a certain degree has posed serious challenges to IT project success. While agile methodologies help overcome these challenges partially some problems still remain. For instance, frequent changes to requirements don’t throw the project off gear while using Scrum because of frequent releases but it can increase the number of sprints or releases thereby extending the project duration and cost.

This scenario raises a question as to whether there should be some effort to stabilize requirements or should they be allowed to change in an uncontrolled manner. This session addresses the above question and quotes from research, the reasons for requirement changes, what type of requirement changes should be allowed and what type to be controlled or avoided.

Some best practices to ensure better clarity and completeness of requirements that prevent avoidable requirement changes are presented. Relevance of these best practices in both traditional and agile projects is also established.

Audience's Gain

The audience get to understand where to draw the line between requirement stability and requirement volatility.

They also get to understand some of the best practices to stabilize requirements where they should be.

They can take these best practices and insights back to their work, do further study of the same and apply them in the projects.
