- Murali Santhanam, PMP
AugChapNews1 PMI Bangalore India Chapter has been able to accomplish its long cherished desire to expand chapter activities to Mysore. The first "PM Footprints" program was successfully held at Mysore on 19 May 2012 in association with the Institution of Engineers, thanks to relentless effort by Chapter members and support staff.

Mr. M G Raghuraman, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at MphasiS delivered an impactful presentation on "Paradigm shift in Project Manager's Priorities in 2012". He expressed that winning business in 2012 will no more be based on rate cards, but on the ability of service providers to bring in a mix and match of domain expertise, solutioning skills and integration skills to bring end-to-end solutions. Around 40 participants from Engineering Institutions, IT Companies and Academic Institutions attended the program to make the event successful.

At the end of the session the Institution of Engineers and the Bangalore Chapter agreed to explore this further and conduct periodic event in Mysore. PMI Bangalore Chapter in association with Rotary Club Bangalore West handed over solar lamps to Yeliyur Governments school in Devanahalli on 28th July 2012. This was a small effort towards enlightening the lives of school children who have to give the board exams but are saddled with lack of amenities in their remote village and electricity playing hide and seek during their study time.

The Chapter held it first volunteer meet at Hotel Royal Orchid Bangalore on 18 Aug 2012. Vijay Paul, Director Volunteering reiterated that the PMI is a volunteer driven organization and welcomed volunteers to actively engage in different activities of the chapter and in the process hone their leadership skills. The meeting was attended by over 30 volunteers and they shared their experiences with volunteering and provided nice suggestions on what the Chapter can do to increase the volunteers engagement. The Chapter is gearing up for this year’s Project Management Practitioners Conference (PMPC) 2012 to be held at NIMHANS Convention Centre, Bangalore from 14-15 Sep 2012. The theme for the conference is “emerging trends” in project management.
