Association  with Rotary Bangalore West

Rotary Bangalore West (RBW), and PMI Bangalore Chapter (PMI, BC) started their association 12 years back. Both our organizations offer services where “projects” are a key part. While RBW implements many social projects every year, PMI promotes the science of project management. Thus, we have a deep common interest in projects.
For 11 years in succession, PMI and RBW have conducted a one-day program on Project Management, aimed at introducing PM practices to budding leaders. (IBM has been a lead partner in this). Funds saved from these seminars have helped RBW conduct a number of social projects, just some of which are:
  1. Free cataract surgeries for the needy, with Narayana Nethralaya.
  2. Many Jaipur foot camps
  3. Building comfort stations in girls’ schools-a high impact project that improves girls’ school attendance significantly
  4. Polio eradication programs-Rotary has played a significant part in ridding India of new polio cases
  5. Free pediatric heart surgeries, along with Narayana Hrudayalaya.

In the last 3 years, RBW has undertaken an ambitious project to provide hundreds of solar LED lamps to Std X students, aimed at countering the woeful power situation in rural areas.  This is a program of large proportions in which RBW gets help from Rotary clubs in the US and also Rotary foundation. (www.rotary.org/FOUNDATION). In this program, PMI,BC has made –not only financial contributions, but has also provided project management expertise.

RBW is proud to be a partner with PMI Bangalore Chapter. “We are pleased that our partnership is growing from strength to strength. There are many more joint initiatives, especially in the area of building a body of knowledge in good project management practices for the social sector”, says BR Bharath, RBW President-2012-13. RBW is also conducting a contest “Applying Project Management Principles to Social Projects” for PMPC participants. Click HERE to know more on this.
