Women In Project Management (WIPM)
– Namita Gupta, PMP, PMI-ACP, WiPM Representative
The first event of “WiPM, Community of practice for Women in Project Management, PMI Bangalore India Chapter held on 22nd September 2018”.
Lt. Col. (Retd.) L. Shri Harsha, Secretary and Treasurer, PMI Bangalore India Chapter welcomed the women and informed audience about expected outcomes and roadmap for WiPM.
Two experienced women speakers from leading organizations, who have been grooming female talent, delivered keynote address.
The first speaker of the day, Ms. Padmaja A.R., Vice President Robert Bosch covered two topics in her address i.e. “Agility” & “WiPM”. Her powerpoint free session was received very nicely. While talking on agility she mentioned about revolutions and the eras which evolved one after another and how only those who adapted to change – survived. She also mentioned people use only 10% of autonomy available in the system. While talking on WiPM she touched upon how women are doing injustice to themselves by setting low targets. Also women always try to make everyone around comfortable which is not necessary.
The second speaker of the day, Ms. Varsha Verma, AVP & Global Delivery Partner, Infosys spoke on the topic “Recognize your strength”. She covered three stories of three women leaders i.e. construction of electronics city elevated highway, Mars Orbiter mission and BPO set up. In all three projects women leaders made almost impossible projects – successful. She described the massive challenges each one of this project faced in a very short time and wondered if these leaders can write a success story why can’t other women. She also talked about few natural trades of women which are niche and help women naturally. Towards the end of her session, she gave a five steps model which was very interesting to know and follow. She concluded the session by challenging the audience to write their own success story.
This was followed by a quick break for networking and interactions with the speakers.
Post break session was an interactive team workshop by Mr. Vijay Paul, Past President, PMI Bangalore India chapter. He explained the details of the workshop to the audience and divided them into four groups/teams namely Technical Project management, Work-Life Balance, Business and Strategy Management and Leadership. Post-it slips were given to take feedback on various essential factors that would influence the groups and the suggestions on how WiPM could help.
The thoughts on the post – were consolidated at the group level and presented to the audience by representatives from each group. The session was open to questions and suggestions. The workshop was well managed, engaging and thoroughly enjoyable.
Finally, Mr. T.V. Seshasai, Chair of E&C and Vice President, Outreach, PMI Bangalore India Chapter presented the Vote of Thanks. He also introduced the team of volunteers behind this event.
The event concluded with lunch and networking.
