Topic: Launch of Project “PM Competency Model for Construction Industry”  by  Mr. Anees A. Haidary  and  Mr. Srinivas Haritsa

Synopsis :

Supervisors (team leaders) across industries have often expressed the need for a quantifiable way of assessing their project managers.

PMCDF is a tool that can help leaders assess their project managers using industry benchmarks. This need based solution will help leaders:

  • Increased ability to deliver quality projects
  • Increased capacity to hire skilled people and new talents
  • Increased competitiveness within the industry market
  • Valuable indicator for organizations’ educational programs

Method –

We identified this need through a series of discussions and surveys done with an identified group of organization leaders. These leaders are a part of PMI Internal REP program which includes corporations like IBM, Nokia, Ericsson, Cisco, KPMG to name a few.

We engaged a 3rd part research team to test and validate the hypothesis of having a guideline framework aligned to PMI PMCD Standard with 57 interviews from 10 organizations.

The 2nd phase of research was done with 400 interviews covering 216 companies. The outcome gave us data points of 747 practitioners, which captured the minimum, optimum and industry average rating for benchmarking.

Outcome :

This PMCD framework will help the supervisors to assess the performance of their project managers, to hire the project manager with right skill set and to nominate the right project manager for the projects.

The framework has been tested by Sasken Technologies Ltd.
